Laboratory of electric machines and research&development of power systems
Technická 2, Hall Laboratories – number 26About the laboratory
The laboratory of electrical machines T2:H1-26 was designed from the beginning for research and testing of rotating and non-rotating electrical machines. The choice of power supplies in the adjacent power supply room corresponds to this: alternating sine wave power supplies up to 100 kW, 1000 V and 300 at frequencies from 10 Hz to 60 Hz. The DC power supplies have a capacity of 100 kW, 500 V to 400 A.
The power supply room contains power supplies for workbenches. For each table, there is a 2× Ward-Leonard unit, which includes a kW asynchronous motor at 1500 rpm, a rotary exciter and an 8.8 kW dynamo. There are also induction controllers up to 1000 V with outputs of 35 kW, 70 kW and 200 kW, synchronous generators of 100 kW and 60 kW, DC dynamos of 100 kW and 75 kW for powering dynamometers, and a 500 kVA autotransformer.. The rotary exciter has parameters of 60 V and 200 A; the original 220 V rotary exciter was later replaced by a static solid-state rectifier

Laboratory instruments
The laboratory itself has an underground test pit with a control panel. It contains four almost identical student workstations with height adjustable tables on which they are placed:
- DC dynamometer with an output of 7 kW at 1500 rpm,
- DC motor with series and external excitation with an output of 5 kW,
- DC dynamometer with an output of 7 kW at rpm,
- Four-pole induction motor with an output of 5.5 kW in two versions with squirrel cage armature and two versions with wound armature,
- Synchronous generator with an output of 5 kW.
These workplaces teach the courses Fundamentals of Electrical Machines and Apparatus (B1B14ZSP) and Electrical Machines and Apparatus (B1M14ESP), as well as Bachelor's and Master's theses. For the implementation of measurements, the terminals of the machines are brought out on unique measuring consoles, which allow the optional connection of sources with electrical machines according to the needs of measurement. The laboratory is also equipped with complete sets of handheld instruments (DC, AC voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter) with an accuracy class of 0.5 and for special cases even more accurate 0.1. This equipment is now complemented by digital multimeters, four-channel oscilloscopes Tektronix and Rhode & Schwartz, and power analyzers NORMA.

Dynamometers, sources and loads
In the laboratory, there are 2 DC dynamometers of 50 kW and 100 kW 3000 rpm. For loading, there are 3 switchable three-phase resistor cabinets of 2×22 and 1×100 kW
We also currently have two electronic dual-quadrant power supplies of 18 kW (max voltage 800 V, max current 75 A) and a workstation with an inverter controlled dynamometer and torque shaft up to a maximum torque of 50 Nm and 2500 rpm.
